Many job seekers worry about losing their benefits when going to work. This training will provide an overview of the impact of earnings on Social Security benefits. Topics include the differences between SSI and SSDI, SSA Work Incentives, how to keep medical benefits while working, how to explain benefits to job seekers, families and other stakeholders, and resources available to assist job seekers with benefit planning issues.
By completing this training, students will be able to:
• Counsel job seekers and family members on the financial incentives for returning to work
• Formulate calculations comparing benefit to salary income ratio
Each online workshop covers the same amount of content as a one-day, in-person training.
Workshops generally take up to six hours to complete.
Some workshops include fieldwork activities, practice exercises, or scheduled tele/webconferences, so it is good to log on early in the month in order to plan your time.
After that, participation is self-paced and flexible-- learn when you want, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Workshops include a variety of formats: readings, slides, discussion forums, web/teleconferences, videos, professional development activities, assignments.
Instructors are involved throughout the month to answer questions.
6 CRC credits are available to participants who complete all of the required activities of this online workshop.
