Employment Law and People with Disabilities: The ADA, Criminal Records, and Beyond
When thinking about the rights of people with disabilities in the workplace, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) usually comes to mind. While examining the rights of people with disabilities in employment, this session will also examine the responsibilities of workers as employees in a business.
Upon completing this training, participants will be able to:
• Describe the basics of ADA, Family & Medical Leave Act, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and other civil rights laws
• Locate information on employment laws
• List strategies for explaining to job seekers how these laws pertain to them
• Explain what steps should be taken when a job seeker feels they have been discriminated against
• Describe the implications of a criminal record on employment

Instruction Model:
This workshop will be available for one month, and should take about six hours to complete. Included are a variety of formats: readings, presentations, discussion forums, videos, professional development activities, and assignments. Instructors will be available on a regular basis throughout the month to answer questions and give feedback.
