Employment Strategies for People with Psychiatric Disabilities

Overview: 

While basic job development strategies apply to any person with a disability, some specific issues should be considered when working with people with psychiatric disabilities. Topics include presenting job seekers to employers, comparison of various employment models, evidence-based practices, disclosure, and dealing with substance abuse or criminal histories.

On completion of this training, participants will learn to:

•    Identify best-practice employment placement and support strategies

•    Assist job seekers with decisions around disclosing psychiatric disability, substance abuse, or criminal history

•    Implement strategies to address challenging behaviors and co-occurring substance use disorders

Instruction Model: 

This workshop will be available for one month, and should take about six hours to complete. Included are a variety of formats: readings, presentations, discussion forums, videos, professional development activities, and assignments. Instructors will be available on a regular basis throughout the month to answer questions and give feedback.
